PHP web applications for all of our Unix accounts

Powerful open-source web apps make our LAMP-based servers a powerful entity to run and administer. All Unix users on our system have a local copy of each app... content, forum, wiki, webmail, online store... of which they're free to implement any, all, or even none if they so choose or have other apps they'd rather use instead. The infrastructures for these apps are already in place and only need to be custom-configured by the user or domain admin.

Web Template Change We've switched to a web template that scales screen updates more efficiently. As you can see, we're still in the process of populating it. Most likely though, final site design will be implemented directly with Joomla CMS.

Linux Self-Hosting for Dummies As a public service, one of our domains is reserved as a free beginner's resource guide to self-hosting.

Multi-domain SSL Support with Apache 2 We've found a method to get Apache 2 working with SSL on multiple domains. Normally, one has to use Apache 1.3 to accomplish this but it's as simple as placing the non-secure (http) and secure (https) web servers on separate computers then configuring the router to send data to the appropriate internal IP. Although it's not entirely a seamless solution, it's a better alternative for our needs here.

Primary Domain Controller Borrowing a few tools from Mandriva Enterprise Server allows us to easily add PDC functions to LAMP-based systems. LDAP + Directory Services form the foundation.

Disclaimersmithtek, smithtek domains, and smithtek.net are not affiliated with any others . They're simply collective names given to domains supported on our servers and smithtek.net is simply the DNS name chosen to encompass this entity. We have no affiliation with any (possibly) other smithtek.* domains, either. If ever in doubt, feel free to request pgp encryption. Our public key ID is located at the top of this page.
